December 2014
It’s 2 more
days to Christmas 2014… 4 more days to the next weekend Saturday and Sunday 27th
and 28th December, and 8 more days to the Countdown 2015 edition of
the Marina Waterfront Bazaar.
And we’re
going just about to launch our official blog...
Talk about
timing...
You, the
reader could be a vendor, a shopper, a venue owner, and event/festival organizer,
an existing or potential business
partner, or even a competitor (yes we know you snoop around our bazaars, social
media pages, websites and try to steal entice our vendors),
that’s ok. We try to return the favour...
Talk about open
market...
Maybe one
day we can all combine forces to put together the greatest weekend flea market
/ bazaar that would make its mark in the world… no... make that the whole
universe!
Talk about
fantasizing...
Whilst many
others (individuals and/or organizations) launch their blogs, making motherhood
/ fatherhood statements on the way ahead for them, their visions for the future
and what nots, we are launching ours with a recap of the few milestones we’ve
met in our 1.5 years since we appeared in the market in June 2012.
Talk about irony.
But we’ll
spare you the agony of having to read through a long story, it could bore you
to death (and we could be revealing too much). And naturally, some things are
better left unsaid. It would make the
other parties look really bad.
Beyond what’s
unsaid, use your imagination to deduce or to guess what happened, what went
right or wrong. Or what didn’t happen… or whatever
And so here
goes our story…
June 2013,
we started off rain or shine Sentosa Boardwalk Bazaar operating only on
Saturdays. It was also around the same
time that there was a particular indoor venue along Orchard whose management
had also invited us to organize a flea market in their premises. Being new then, we were not ready to run
multiple sites, let alone kickoff both venues officially on the same day. By now you how we made our decision.
October 2013 – The Marina Waterfront Bazaar started. So did the rainy season. Marina Waterfront Bazaar became an ad-hoc bazaar that runs regularly. We also our partnership with www.OwnAShop.com
November
2013 – we put together our inaugural Philanthropists’ Month, where we managed
to invite 22 VWOs and Social Enterprises, through help from NCSS, to set up
shop at the Sentosa Boardwalk Bazaar. Dealing with the VWOs is
interesting. We also found a mostly inverse correlation between
the well-being of a VWO and their attitude towards raising funds via sales of
merchandise at flea markets / bazaars. This,
amongst other discoveries, explained why Philanthropists’ 2014 was only limited
to only VWOs registered with NCSS.
December
2013 – Marina Waterfront Bazaar at the Marina Bay Singapore Countdown 2014
January 2014 – SAFRA Mt Faber.
February 2014 – Home United Youth Football Academy official opening. Enough said.
April 2014 –
- Car Boot Loot at Top of Chinatown. It felt incestuous.
- Zhongshan Mall Easter Bazaar, outcome is not bad. But we’re not continuing. The organizer before and after us is also not there anymore. Enough said.
June 2014 – Sentosa Boardwalk Bazaar starts operating on both Saturdays and Sundays.
August 2014 –
- Philanthropists’ Month 2014. Response was not so good since we only invited VWOs. Will there be a Philanthropists’ Month 2015?
- NUS HERE Campus Party at the NUSCC.
December 2014 –
- Yew Tee Point Mall Christmas Bazaar
- Marina Waterfront Bazaar for Marina Bay Singapore Countdown 2015.
- Our busiest month for the year, as we still have our regular Sentosa Boardwalk Bazaar and the end-of-month ah-hoc regular Marina Waterfront Bazaar to run...
Beyond 2015… will you help us write our story ?
That’s
about it for our inaugural blog, we’re going to let the content of this space be as organic as
possible, so there won't be much curating here.
Here’s wishing all friends (no foes remain foes forever, we hope) a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
